A/State Second Edition

System: Forged in the Dark
GM: Stephen McMorland
Description: The City, is the only place you have ever known, and you and your crew do everything you can to defend your little patch of it, your corner. You are known as Troublemakers and as long as you can avoid the attention of The Provosts and the Great Powers you are golden, however, Trouble is never far away and The City is full of mysteries, enigmas and danger, as well as fun. You will undertake missions to further your cause and try to survive and thrive.
Spaces: 5
Age Rating: R18
Content Advisories: The setting is very gritty, there is reference to substance abuse, violence, police briutality, Oppression, psychological horrordeath, sufferning and basically, if it happens in Glasgow it happens here LOL

Wanderers

System: Wanderhome
GM: Rowan Edmunds
Description: In a Ghibli inspired DMless system, I will be your guide as we wander the world in the wake a of great strife and catastrophe: exploring, helping forgotten tiny gods and healing the broken.
Spaces: 5
Age Rating: PG
Content Advisories: heartbreak, trauma and mundane issues, maybe fantasy violence in flashbacks

New Defenders

System: Mutants and Masterminds (3rd Edition)
GM: Aidan Hurst
Description: Marvel-style superheroes game, which will be in a new setting (mostly like our modern world but it has people with superpowers). The players are members of a superteam which got its start in WW2 and has existed in some form or other up to the present day. Game will be quite character focused. Character creation session will involve discussion of lines and veils.
Spaces: 6
Age Rating: 12
Content Advisories: none (established in lines/veils in session)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Spaces: 6
Age Rating: 12
Content Advisories: Blood, monsters, fantasy violence

Tales From Night Watch 13

System: Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition
GM: Alex “Grim” Lutman
Description: It is 1:44am in the great citadel of Stalhex, and someone has just been murdered in a way that wasn’t possible yesterday. The only people who know this are Night Watch 13, a single squadron of the Stalhex Night Watch, and though they don’t know it yet, they may just be the only people standing between The City of Stone and total oblivion. Night Watch 13 is a fantasy-noir detective mystery in the vein of Disco Elysium or Terry Pratchett’s ‘The Watch’ series: Will you use your devastating charm to coax info out of witnesses, investigate the crime scene using your brilliant mind and canny instincts, or use your capacity for a well-placed thump to get your squadmates out of trouble? Fight for Truth, Justice, and roughly 7gp per week plus allowances!
Spaces: 5
Age Rating: 15
Content Advisories: Murder, Violence, Suspense, Foul Language, liberal references to cop shows from the 70s, and (depending on player actions) possible themes of corruption. All subject to discussion before the game begins.

The Oldest City – Foundations and Family Means Business

System: FATE Core
GM: Logan Anderson
Description: These two campaigns (One Afternoon, One in the evening) have been designed to be inexorably linked. The first will be a bronze age tech level story of a fantasy world in which the oldest city in existence is formed. High Fantasy with homebrew races and plenty of meddling gods. The second is set thousands of years in the future where, 25 years after a cosmic scale war between gods, the world this city is on is opened up to a whole myriad of other civilisations and cultures. The ruling class of this city, the Fatebreakers, are in a weakened state after the war and a death of one of their leaders. So a variety of organisations seek to wrest control of the city behind the scenes. This second campaign will be sci-fantasy with a very variable level of technology. Elevator pitches: Foundations will be a bronze age fantasy campaign centered around the founding of a city state. Family Means Business will be a mafia-style game of politics and cloak-and-dagger power struggles in an ancient urban playground. Both will be very open and sandboxy. The players will determine the ultimate direction of the story.
Spaces: 5
Age Rating: 15
Content Advisories: Violence, drug use, strong language.

Wednesday Pitch Listings

The post here is for information only, and sign-ups for games will happen live in the Teviot Dining Room Wednesday 21st September 7pm.

Champions of Azeroth

System: DnD 5e
GM: Graye Goldsmith

Spaces: 5
Age Rating: 15
Content Advisories: Fantasy Violence, Strong Language, possible themes of War

The Gate of Dreams

System: DnD 5e
GM: Marina Wallace
Description: High fantasy, political drama – involving intrigue, combat and magic. Set in a Kingdom beset by enemies on all sides, it will be up to the players to choose what path lies ahead for the kingdom. Themes of war, betrayal and conflict, with players having positions of power in court.
Spaces: 6
Age Rating: 12
Content Advisories: Fantasy violence, war.

Wanderers

System: Wanderhome
GM: Rowan Edmunds
Description: Using a studio ghibli inspired DMless system I will be your guide in exploring the recovery of a country after a period of strife and running around as animal people befriending monsters, exploring, helping small and forgotten gods, and making the world a better place.
Spaces: 4
Age Rating: PG
Content Advisories: Heartbreak and quiet loss, mundane issues, potential fantasy violence

The Plunder of Stable Alba

System: Ars Magica 5e
GM: Angus Balkham
Description: In early 13th century Scotland, as King William prepares his young son for the throne, a threat arises in the north to challenge his rule. This would not normally concern members of the Order of Hermes, a Europe-wide collection of wizards sworn to non-intervention in mundane politics, but this event carries ancient echoes of a dark secret in the Order’s history… In this game, players will play various members of a group of magic-users and their community in a world that works as people of the Middle Ages imagined it. Tremendously powerful magic is available with players designing their own spells, but they might contend with angels, demons and faeries as much as with politics and the church. (This campaign is focused on interaction with other humans, but is open to player ideas.)
Spaces: 5
Age Rating: 12
Content Advisories: Likely immediate threat and light fantasy violence; possibly other risks, which will be discussed before play

Rime Of The Frostmaiden

System: DnD 5e
GM: Jamie Wheeler
Description: North of the Spine of the World and west of the towering Reghed Glacier is a frigid expanse few dare to explore, let alone inhabit. For two long years, the god of winter’s wrath has kept the sun from rising in Icewind Dale. Suspicion and desperation eat away at settlements plunged into perpetual darkness. And still greater threats may loom on the horizon. Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden is a tale of dark terror that revisits the forlorn, flickering candlelight of Ten-Towns and the many bone-chilling locations that surround it.
Spaces: 5
Age Rating: 15
Content Advisories: Horror, Dark fantasy, Fantasy violence, Death by freezing, TBH not finished reading the campaign, so not sure

Arcane but with vampires

System: Brinkwood (forged in the dark)
GM: Alan
Description: Take Arcanes magic/steam-punk and add blood drenched vampire overlords and dark pacts. When blood is the currency, and capitalist parasites literally eat the poor, making pacts with dark forces from the mines seems like the lesser evil. You are the rebels trying to bring down the empire. What allies will you find, what friends will you lose, what will be left of you by the time you succeed. Horror themes, oppressive capitalism, bloody violence and self sacrifice.
Spaces: 3
Age Rating: 15
Content Advisories: Violence, horror, oppression

AGM Links and Nomination In Absentia

Hello there, Adventurers!

As you’ll have heard by now, we’re having our AGM this Sunday at 5pm. It’s incredibly important that we meet quorum during the AGM or we won’t be able to re-register the society for next year, so we need everyone to attend if they can. We’ll be voting on several motions and electing a new committee, in addition to delivering this years reports from the President, Secretary and Treasurer.

The full agenda can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nidiLymIr0k0C5WFQd_efhVccksElJtKjM01ubR1dU8/edit?usp=sharing

We’ll be holding the AGM via Zoom as we did last year and making use of the polling system. The meeting will be starting promptly, so please make sure you’re able to access the platform before the night.

Running for Committee If You Can’t Be There

If you’d like to run for a committee position then you simply need to turn up on the night, and either nominate yourself or have a friend do so. It is possible to run for a position without attending the AGM, but we strongly suggest that you do attend as it greatly increases your odds of being elected. However, if you definitely can’t be there; you can send us a short paragraph about who your are, why you’re best suited to the role, and any plans you may have for the society if you are elected. This will be read by a one of the committee to the attending members.

A list of positions and a short description of each can be found here: https://geas.org.uk/2022/02/20/taking-part-in-the-agm/

Please send your statement (along with your preferred full name, pronouns, and student status) to the GEAS email address before 1pm on Sunday the 3rd; geas.committee

See you Sunday!

If you’re attending Conpulsion from outside of the UK and don’t want to donate abroad, we ask that you consider donating an equivalent amount to a food bank or project local to you.

Conpulsion Call for GMs

Hello there Adventurers!

GEAS’s annual gaming convention is taking place next month from the 8th to the 10th of April, we’re running a stripped back event this year with an afternoon of one-shots on Sunday the 10th from 1pm to 5pm. You can find out more about the event and take a look at our programme here: https://conpulsion.org/programme/

Games submissions are still open for the rest of the working week, with the closing deadline at 5pm on Friday 25th March. You’re welcome to run (more or less) anything you’d like and we’ve implemented the same submission format that we use for GEAS. If you’d like to take part and support the convention, the games can be submitted here: https://conpulsion.org/submission

We’d love for our roster of GMs to represent the community we have here at GEAS, which is why we’d especially welcome submissions from people of minoritised genders and backgrounds. Conpulsion would be more than happy to support new GMs, even if you’ve never run a game here before.

Hope to see you there!
