GEAS – Student National Roleplaying Competition

Greetings Grand Adventurers,

Sorry for taking so long, I kept saying that I’ll do this announcement once we also start pitches, but then it would be a bit too late. Student Nationals are coming up soon, so I’m here to tell you a bit about them and how you can sign up.

For those who don’t know, Student Nationals is a "roleplaying competition" that attracts people from all across the UK. Nobody knows what "competitive roleplaying" is supposed to mean, but what really matters is that it’s a good time to put together a group and go somewhere for a whole weekend and do some roleplaying. There is a list of categories that games will be run in, from which each individual must give 3 that they are interested in roleplaying for, in order of preference. People usually get assigned one of their 3 choices, unless all of said categories have proven extremely popular and the algorithm doing the sorting drew you the short stick, but I wouldn’t worry about that. At the event you will have two separate games, one on each day of the weekend. There are also plenty of other attractions such as board games, a trade hall and sometimes panels and other events (treasure hunts, etc.).

Given that this year it’s happening in Glasgow, we don’t really need to set up accommodation as we can just commute there easily enough, but, if enough interest in this is expressed, I would be more than happy to help facilitate accommodation for those interested in staying the night. I will organise transport at a later date though, as it’s less time constrained. My idea was that we would go there and return as a group, via train, but the specifics of this can be further discussed with the people that sign up.

For those that want to sign up, the important details are as follows. The event will be taking place on the 12th-14th of April in Glasgow. There is a sign-up fee of 25£ (does not include transport, which I will keep you posted on). You will need to send me the three categories you are interested in (preferably numbered from 1 to 3 in descending order of priority), here, at geas.committee. You can find the list of categories and a brief description for them in this brochure on page 5. More information can be found on this site as well. The deadline for submission is the end of this month, so those who want to go should express interest and (preferably) pay the fee by the 28th, just to be sure we don’t miss it.

I’ll be sending a reminder sometime later, and more details whenever they become available. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Hope I’ll be hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards,
Tudor Ferariu
